Touch Tone Telephone
The 24-Hour information service lines will only respond to Touch Tone telephone
input.
Many push button telephones can generate tone and pulse dialing signals. These
telephones have a switch or button to change the signal from one to the other.
If you are using a pushbutton phone on a line that only responds to rotary dial-type
pulses, check to see if the telephone also has Touch Tone capability. If it
does, you can use the pulse output to call the main number, (212) 301-4871.
When you hear the number ringing, switch to "tone" or "TT"
output to communicate with the system.
Rotary Dial Telephone
If you have a rotary dial or a pushbutton phone without Touch Tone capability,
you can purchase a battery-powered device to emulate Touch Tones for automated
systems.
