Q: What is ClearPortsm? A: The
NYMEX ClearPortsm technology network is a flexible system offering market
participants wide latitude in meeting their risk management needs while
taking advantage of the financial depth and integrity of the Exchange clearinghouse.
It consists of the NYMEX ClearPortsm trading platform, through which a slate
of energy futures contracts are available for competitive trading; the NYMEX
ClearPortsm clearing website, which allows market participants to submit
transactions directly for clearing as well as exchange of futures for swaps
or physicals transactions; and NYMEX ClearPortsm confirmations, a service
that allows market participants to ensure that bilateral transactions are
correctly executed by the buyer and seller.
NYMEX ClearPortsm is an open system, which will allow trading firms to use
front-end applications that best fit their trading requirements. The system
lets commercial traders quote transactions in standard commercial units,
such as barrels or British thermal units, while converting them to cleared
contract equivalents. It uses enterprise-wide credit limits across both
traded and cleared-only transactions to allow for prudent risk management.
It also supports negatively priced contracts allowing the trading of basis
differentials, and is scaleable, allowing for future growth.

Q: What are the hours of operation for the NYMEX ClearPortsm
technology network? A: Business hours for the NYMEX
ClearPortsm trading platform and the NYMEX ClearPortsm clearing website
are 7 P.M. Sunday night, through 2:30 P.M., Friday, New York time, with

How are transactions submitted to the NYMEX ClearPortsm technology
network? A: Registered market participants wishing

can either enter bids or offers on their own behalf directly onto the system,
or can have the bids or offers submitted by a futures commission merchant

Registered market participants who wish to submit transactions through the
NYMEX ClearPortsm clearing website can submit their transactions in one
of three ways:
- They can have a broker submit a trade on behalf of two principals
who have instructed their respective clearing members to allow the broker
to submit trades for their accounts.

desk and instruct the Exchange facilitator to submit the trade for their
respective clearing accounts.
- An existing bilateral trade may be submitted to the NYMEX ClearPortsm

the trades should be cleared through the Exchange. The Exchange will
match each principal's trades identified in the XML document and submit
it for clearing.
Q: How will I be alerted of a trade that a broker submits
for trading or clearing on my behalf?
A: The system automatically sends an e-mail at the e-mail address
provided by you when a broker submits an NYMEX ClearPortsm transaction on
your behalf. Q: How does NYMEX ClearPortsm
confirmations work? A: NYMEX ClearPortsm confirmations
allows you to send an electronic data file containing specific transaction
details such as price, quantity, volume, and counterparty. NYMEX ClearPortsm
confirmations matches the relevant data fields and generates a secure, web-enabled
report showing you the status of trades that have been matched and which
have not. Instead of waiting days or weeks, with NYMEX ClearPortsm confirmations,
this process is completed in a timely matter. |
